The Missing Peace

Posted in

Dalai LamaA particularly relevant show will open at San Francisco's Museum of Modern Art on December 1st - The Missing Peace: Artists Consider the Dalai Lama. Given the question "How does an artist interpret the Dalai Lama?", 88 artists from over 25 countries have created an answer that interprets what he stands for as a social and cultural figure - holy man, statesman, politician, peacemaker...

The goals of the show are as follows (taken from The Missing Peace website):

1. To shift the world's attention towards peace.

2. To provide the participating artists with an inspiring concept, and give them total creative freedom to interpret it.

3. To create a significant, international exhibition for an international audience.

4. To find ways in which the project can have extended meaning in people's everyday lives before, during and after the exhibition, in each country and community, and for people of all ages.

Missing Peace Book
With a statement like that and an incredible line up of artists - Bill Viola, Richard Avedon, Chuck Close, Anish Kapoor, El Anatsui, Jenny Holzer to just name a few - this show is really isn't one to miss. The show will be accompanied by The Peace Wall which gives people an opportunity to voice their thoughts, call for peace and inspire others to do the same.

There's also a book, which looks just as gorgeous as the show itself.
