LA vs WAR on 3rd st. Los Angeles Ca. ©TheoJemison

Earlier this week, a crew from the LA vs. WAR show set out to take over a building on third street, including a mural of Ghandi by Mear and a series of posters promoting the LA vs WAR show. The building is on 3rd Street between Beverly and Fairfax in Los Angeles if some of you locals want to check it out first hand. Time lapse photography is by the talented Theo Jemison (check his website, theojemison.com, for a hi-res version of the video).

Noah Breuer - New Work

Posted in

Breuer/SmithYo! friend and artist Noah Breuer graduated last year from Columbia University with a master's in fine art and from the looks of things has been putting that degree to good use.

Starting this month, Breuer will be teaching a class at NYU and helping them run their printmaking shop. He also has two pieces in a show at IPCNY which will be up until February 23rd, so please go check out the show if you are out in Chelsea.

Since graduation he has been working on a set of woodblock prints with artist Kiki Smith. Smith is known for her roots as a feminist artist; her sculptures are known worldwide and her prints are currently held at museums such as the MOMA in New York. On the topic of prints, Smith has said, "Prints mimic what we are as humans: we are all the same and yet every one is different. I think there's a spiritual power in repetition, a devotional quality, like saying rosaries." Working with her is no small achievement, and we think the prints turned out great.

Yo! Stockholm

Posted in

John Carr at LavaYo! What Happened To Peace? opened Saturday December 8 in Stockholm, Sweden at Kulturhuset's youth division Lava. The opening was timed to coincide with the Vardagsrebell (Everyday Rebel) 3-day art and activism festival, co-produced by Lava, PeaceQuest, Radda Varlden and several other progressive groups. The aim of the festival is to engage Swedish youth to use their creative talents in expressing alternatives to consumerism and to rebel against the status quo in their everyday lives.

Kulturhuset is central Stockholm's amazing modern cultural center, featuring art galleries, libraries, theaters, cinemas, workshops, and cafés. The Vardagsrebell festival's activities included a screenprinting workshop hosted by John Carr of Yo! What Happened to Peace?, street actions, a rebel photo-booth, short film-making classes and much more.

Opening at the Foundry in London

Yo! at the Foundry

The opening at the Foundry in Shoreditch on Tuesday night went very well and was packed with great people, art and music. Many thanks to all who came out and especially to the artists, djs and staff of the Foundry - Jonathan, Sheone, Danny Delta, Chris Read, Inkfetish, Beat96, Ray, Rachel, Meeshka, Mike, olive47 and Sminz.

The Foundry really turned out to be the perfect spot for this event. New people were introduced to the show from just being at the bar upstairs hanging out and the people who already knew about it were a good fit with the venue. The gallery space itself used to be part of a bank and by the end of the night people were having quite a good time with the rotating metal circle thing in the center of the room. Apparently it used to be where the truck full of money was brought down, spun around and then the jewels and gold and crowns and diamonds or whatever were unloaded and carried into the vaults downstairs.

Yo! at the Foundry
Anyway, if any of you are in London, please make a stop in - we'll be at the Foundry until Sunday. The place has a few Banksy stencils inside on the walls and a GIANT one on the outside in the back. Also, there's another show going on as well in another gallery room - it's photos of protests and all that good stuff, definitely worth checking out.

Team Yo! in London

Posted in

Team Yo! has officially made it across the pond and is currently out and about in London. Last night we made it out to Dial House in Essex to meet with Gee Vaucher, who's newest print will debut at the opening on Tuesday at the Foundry. Gee and the rest of the Dial House crew are awesome and showed us a great time on Guy Fawkes night, complete with a bonfire and plenty of fireworks and firedancing along with many great friends and family. Many thanks to Gee for her hospitality and warmth.

Today we stopped by the Foundry to do a little pre-show work and we met with some local artists - Inkfestish and Beat96 - who are helping us out with the London show. This one is really gonna be great, see you all at the opening!
